It has two different engine-turned patterns on the special order, burgundy dial,
with concentric ‘waves’ radiating from the centre. Each pattern reflects light differently, giving the dial a mixture of tones and fantastic depth, enriched by a layer of deep burgundy, dark red lacquer. Applied Arabic numerals and index markers, and blued-steel
Breguet hands add further classicism to this piece. Unusually, unlike most
Voutilainen dials, where the numerals 12, 3 and 9 are shown, the
dial of this piece is fitted with applied numerals at 2, 4, 8 and 10 o'clock.
The case is also marked as a limited edition on the back, including the unique number within the series. Our
Helsinki grey nubuck strap and
Kari Voutilainen's signature tear-shaped lugs finish off this rare interpretation of the
Vingt-8; showing both the watchmaker's
uncompromising attention to detail and craftsmanship.
This titanium
Vingt-8 is just as impressive within it's rare, lightweight housing. The sapphire crystal on the reverse allows for an uninterrupted view of the movement, revealing the rich palette of hues and forms. Kari's in-house
Cal. 28 is made from German silver and titanium, classically finished with
Côtes de Genève and perlage on the base plate.
Through the combination of a a free-sprung balance with
Breguet over-coil and a
Grossmann interior curve, and the signature direct impulse escapement with two large (13.6mm) escapement wheels, a high degree of engineering ingenuity is accomplished. One of the hallmarks of
Voutilainen as a manufacture is their
superlative hand-finishing; with expert anglage and a mixture of polished, brushed and frosted surfaces, the aesthetics of the movement is as impressive as the mechanics. The watch has a 50-hour power reserve.
This limited edition,
Vingt-8 piece comes as a full-set, with its original box and papers. The watch comes on our
Helsinki nubuck strap, as well as two bespoke alligator straps from
Kari Voutilainen, made especially for this piece The watch was originally sold by Connecticut-based
Manfredi Jewels, which acquired two of ten spoken-for pieces on behalf of collectors in 2016.
A Collected Man is the
exclusively approved re-seller of Voutilainen watches. Viewings can be arranged in Central London by appointment.
