This Voutilainen 217QRS is part of a limited series of just 10 pieces, and has a very modern configuration, with a white gold case and dark blue dial. The watch features a retrograde date indication, an intriguing complication that is integrated smoothly into the dial.

The dial features three different guilloche styles, and each pattern reflects the light differently, giving the dial a mixture of tones and depth. Applied Arabic numerals and Breguet-style hands give the watch a more modern look, complemented by sans serif numerals printed for the retrograde date indication and sub-seconds. The case is especially distinctive, featuring angular, sculpted lugs that give the impression of floating separately from the rest of the case. Meanwhile, the retrograde mechanism itself enables the indicator of the 217QRS to slowly return from the 31st to the 1st day of the month, avoiding any inaccuracies, which can typically occur in instantaneous retrograde mechanisms.

While the inspiration for the 217QRS comes from the Vingt-8, the retrograde date mechanism is fully integrated within the Calibre 28. The movement features Voutilainen's direct impulse-escapement with two escape wheels. The exceptionally large, free-sprung balance beats at 18,000 vph, held in place by a long steel bridge with rounded arms. The case is 39mm in size, a fairly modern size that does not quite overwhelm the wearer's wrist.

This Voutilainen 217QRS Retrograde Date is in very good condition throughout. The bezel, mid case and lugs show light superficial marks consistent with relative wear. More specifically marks on the upper left and lower left lug, likely from a previous strap change. The dial, hands and movement are free from any signs of imperfections. The hallmarks and engravings are crisp and well defined.
