The Design
This reference 47052 displays a triple calendar, or complete calendar, complication. It displays the day, date and month, though it does not take into account the variable lengths of the various months, and therefore needs to be corrected five times a year. Vacheron Constantin has a long and storied history of triple calendar pieces, many of which follow this classic layout.
The dial of this Ref. 47052 manages to include plenty of information while retaining a classic appearance. The main features are the two date subdials and a brushed, silver chapter ring that is printed with the months and a corresponding 52-week indication.
The dial is decorated with an intricate guilloché pattern that provides the piece with a sense of depth and complexity, with the day sub-dial at 9 o’clock and the date sub-dial at 3 o’clock. Each sub-dial has a brushed silver chapter ring with indications printed in black, while the hands are made from darkened blue steel, providing a contrast against the lighter coloured dials.
This triple-date display is accompanied by a monophase that sits above 6 o’clock. Rather interestingly, the moonphase is made from lapis lazuli, a deep blue metamorphic rock, which adds another rich spark of colour to the otherwise pared-back colour palette. The piece has a solid caseback, upon which is engraved “Vacheron – Constantin” in cursive, with “Geneva” in a similar font directly in the centre.
The Movement
This Ref. 47052 is powered by the self-winding calibre 1126, a movement that is based off the JLC 889 calibre. It is fitted with 36 jewels, has a power reserve of 38 hours, and beats at 28,800 vph.
