The Origine, Sylvain Pinaud's second watch, won him the GPHG Horological Revelation Prize in 2022. It expands on the maker's aesthetic and technical style and benefits from his considerable experience in the industry. This particular watch follows the aesthetic of the prototype version closely, with a rose gold balance bridge and hands, along with a steel escapement bridge.

THE WATCHMAKER

Pinaud graduated from the well-established Lycée Edgar Faure in Morteau in 1998, then went on to spend two years learning how to recondition calibres with Gilbert Petit-Jean, a movement assembler. He then took a year off to backpack around the world before settling back down in Switzerland to work with Franck Muller for eleven years. This was a significant part of his development as a watchmaker, as he moved around the various workshops, learning different skills.

After Franck Muller, Pinaud moved out of Geneva and to Sante Croix, where he took up a position with Dominque Mouret, a clock restorer. He spent five years restoring beautiful classic pieces before joining Techniques Horlogères Appliquées (THA), a manufacture specialising in developing complicated calibres. This is where he met Vianney Halter – who he considers his mentor. After this, he did a five-year stint at Carl F. Bucherer working on movement prototypes. Finally, in 2016, Pinaud finally decided to take the leap and rent a small workshop where he began a new career as an independent watchmaker.
