First released in 2017, the Bulgari Octo Finissimo is a piece that houses one of the world’s thinnest watch movements at just 2.23mm in thickness. Made from titanium, the watch is remarkably light and lean, in part thanks to the material but also because of the ultra-thin, self-winding calibre BVL 138 that powers it.
Upon observing the octagonal case shape of the piece, it then comes as no surprise that the roots of the Octo Finissimo’s design can be found in Gerald Genta’s designs. The eponymous company was acquired by Bulgari in the 2000s, and they had the means to realise the design’s full creative potential. In keeping with this, we see that the masculine angles of the case design contrast with the slim profile of the watch, balancing both strength and elegance.
This particular piece is also distinguished by the numerals on its dial. Historically, a small number of vintage watches were made for the Middle Eastern market that featured Eastern Arabic numerals. Notably, these included a small number of vintage Rolex dials from the 1950s. Thanks to their rarity and limited production, watches with these dials have become highly coveted within the collecting community.
Limited to an exclusive series of 100 pieces, the dial is a brushed grey that blends seamlessly with the case and bracelet, complemented by unusual lacquered, forest-green numerals and matching hands.
If sold within the United Kingdom, this Bulgari Octo Finissimo will be subject to 20% VAT.
