Designed and launched by Audemars Piguet in 1989, the dual-time complication was created for the frequent traveller for whom it would be useful to have two time-zones to consult at once. Created in the early 1990s, this Dual Time reference 25685 is one of the earliest pieces to house this complication and is usually found in yellow gold. This piece is then particularly unusual and desirable, as it is encased in platinum.
Part of the Jules Audemars line, this series is named after the founder of the brand, and as a whole, the pieces tend towards the more experimental and innovative, remaining both technically and visually outstanding. The integration of an unusual dial layout and complication with this Dual Time is a testament to the series’ philosophy.
The piece has a particularly classic look, with a cream dial against a white metal case. However, despite the restrained palette of the dial, the layout is slightly unusual, with the power reserve, second time indication, and date sub-dial set equidistant from each other. The watch is powered by the calibre 2129, which is based off the JLC 889 ébauche. This calibre is now the base for many of Audemars Piguet’s watches and is a self-winding movement that has the ability to be more versatile and is able to carry a wide range of complications.
