Created by Louis Cartier in 1912, the Tortue was only Cartier’s third wristwatch design, after the Santos Dumont and Tonneau. With its unmistakable DNA and Cartier’s timeless style, the model's tortoise-inspired case quickly became a classic. This particular reference 2762 is slightly larger than the standard Monopusher at 38mm, in keeping with contemporary tastes for more substantial watches.
Beneath the curved crystal, a modern-style guilloché dial replaces the design of the original model from the 1920s, with the blued steel Breguet style hands. Building upon the aesthetic introduced in the original 1999 Collection Privée Cartier Paris, the dial blends the best of vintage Cartier, with bolder modern proportions. Additionally, there is the highly coveted "Cartier Paris" signature just below the 12 o’clock marker, invoking further vintage associations.
This Cartier Tortue Monopoussoir also makes use of the calibre 045MC, a movement externally developed by THA Ébauche, a collaborative movement manufacture co-founded by F.P. Journe and which played a pivotal role in the early careers of watchmakers Denis Flageollet and Vianney Halter. The movement uses a lever escapement, and can only be found in the various Tortue Monopoussoir made by Cartier, in addition to the Tank Monopoussoir and De Bethune Monopoussoir.
If sold within the United Kingdom, this Cartier Tortue Monopusher Ref. 2762 will be subject to 20% VAT.
