First introduced in the ’20s, the Cartier Cloche received a new life in 2021, under the Privé Collection re-edition. The combination of a rose-gold case and anthracite grey dial fuses vintage styling and modern textures, giving this traditional design a contemporary touch. This contemporary recreation of the Cartier Cloche was offered in three metals – rose gold, yellow gold, and platinum, with each version limited to only 100 pieces, making this a particularly rare and attractive example.
This piece is unusual because of its bell-shaped silhouette, with “cloche” being French for bell. This distinctive shape is characteristic of the French jeweller’s approach to watch design. Indeed, the brand has produced several emblematic cases that speak to their signature mixture of playful, experimental charm and classic aesthetics. From the Crash to the Asymétrique, and certainly including the Cloche, Cartier has come to be defined by this inventive approach to design, which few traditional watchmakers have dared to take.
Intriguingly, this watch can be read both while on the wrist or when turned on its side to function as a desk clock. Further to this, the watch is ideal for those driving long distances, or for using while typing – plus any other instances in which the wearer’s arms are placed straight in front of them.
If sold within the United Kingdom, this Cartier Privé Collection Cartier Cloche will be subject to 20% VAT.
