Originally introduced in 1956, as the reference 6541, the highly-functional Rolex Milgauss was designed as an antimagnetic, tool watch expressly aimed at those working in powerful magnetic fields, such as at the ‘Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire’, or CERN, in Geneva. Perhaps the most iconic of a breed of purposeful watches from the late 1950s and early 60s, including the IWC Ingénieur and the Omega Railmaster, the Milgauss, is simple and clean in design, with fantastic resistance to both shock and magnetism.
