The Patek Philippe Aquanaut Travel Time was first released in 2012 and was the first Aquanaut to house a complication. It features a second time zone function, executed through the hollow hour hand and two apertures at 3 and 9 o’clock. It is perhaps one of the easiest dual time zone watches to use, as the pushers on the left side of the watch are used to set the GMT hour hand independently. The two apertures on either side are used to differentiate night and day for both local, and home time. Furthermore, there is a date function at 6 o’clock that follows the home time. When not travelling, the second time zone hand sits underneath the main hour hand, allowing for an incredibly functional watch.
Sized at 40.8mm, the watch is perfectly proportioned on the wrist. It has the classic Aquanaut brushed bezel, contrasting with its polished bevelled edges, and shows the high level of finishing on this piece. The black grey dial is embossed with gold applied numerals and luminescent hour markers. The inside of the date function at 6 o’clock is embossed with a globe pattern, giving further indication that it is a watch made for travelling.
This Patek Philippe Aquanaut Travel Time is powered by the self-winding calibre 324 S C F US. This is essentially a calibre 324 S C, commonly seen in the time-only Aquanaut model and its larger sibling, the 5711 Nautilus, but with a travel-time module built atop. In total, the movement has 294 parts, 29 jewels and a power reserve of 45 hours. It is water resistant to 120m and features a screw-down crown. This watch comes on its original ‘Tropical’ Patek Philippe rubber strap, which is the name given to their composite rubber used.
To note are the very slight surface scratches on the bezel and deployant.
