In 2006,
Patek Philippe released the reference
5712/1A-001 - featuring an ultra-thin, calibre 240 PS IRM C LU, with off-centre micro-rotor. The
5712 marked the return of the moon-and-date version of the
Nautilus, previously seen in the
ref. 3712, from 2005.
Early examples of the
Nautilus are now highly sought-after by collectors, commanding increasing prices in the vintage market. With an ever-growing waiting list, demand for the
5712 has also increased in recent years. This
5712/1A-001 example
is from 2006 (the first year of production) and comes with its original box, Certificate of Origin and product literature.
The
5712 re-interprets a number of signature design elements from the original Nautilus - mostly notably, the gradient blue dial, with horizontal grooves. Similar to its predecessor, the
5712 measures 43mm (up from 42mm), classing it amongst the ‘Jumbo’ collection. The steel, three-piece case provides water resistance up to 60m, further featuring a large screw-down crown. The reference

This steel,
Nautilus 5712/1A-001 watch is an excellent balance between function and classic design. The case and bracelet are excellently finished, with beveled, polished and granular surfaces. The steel bracelet has virtually no stretch, with flat central links. At 43mm in diameter, and 8.52 mm thick, the
5712 case is a unique twist of perspectives and size. The ‘ridged’ blue dial includes a power reserve indication (at half past 10), date and moon display (at 7 o’clock) and a small second at 4. It additionally features all the traditional indications of a time-only watch, with applied hour-markers and
Nautilus hands (with luminescent inserts).

Patek Philippe’s in-house calibre 240 PS
IRM C LU (for petite seconde, indication de réserve de marche, calendrier et lune – small second, power reserve indicator, date and moon), visible through the sapphire display-back. It features 29 jewels, a straight-line lever escapement, shock absorber mechanism a self-compensating flat balance spring and a monometallic balance, adjusted to cold, heat, isochronism and 5 positions. Furthermore, the 22k solid-gold micro-rotor is finished in classic
Patek Philippe style, with Geneva stripes.
